The European program #BEACTIVE, which has been implemented by the Ministry of Sports for the last nine years with great success, held today the annual award ceremony of the participating organizations for 2023. At the same time, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Organizing Committee of #BeActiveHellas and the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki.

#BeActiveHellas, which is now established and grows every year more and more, implemented 1,390 actions last year (versus 900 in 2022) with 253,000 participants in 41 sports across Greece.



In the program that aims to promote sports activity and physical exercise, regardless of age, gender and physical condition, 102 organizations participated last year and were awarded at the event for the rich activity they developed in the context of the European Sports Week.

The #BEACTIVE European program is a dominant axis of sports policy in Europe and is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Sports' policy, as the Deputy Minister, Yannis Vroutsis, said in his greeting:


"As a ministry, we fully support the work of the Organizing Committee of #BeActiveHellas and all the organizations that organized the approximately 1,400 actions in the past year. Besides, the European program #BEACTIVE is one of the main pillars of our policy for the promotion of physical activity in the population and we must strengthen it. I welcome you to your home, the Ministry of Sports, and thank you very much for your active involvement in the goals of the program!"





For his part, the Greek Greek Orthodox Church and president of the #BeActiveHellas Coordinating Committee, Giorgos Mavrotas, spoke about the goals of the program and developed the beneficial benefits of the exercise.

"# BEACTIVE is a European program that aims to get more exercise into our lives. Something that is becoming more and more important nowadays when a sedentary life has unfortunately become the norm. Especially in our country, based on the latest Eurobarometer, our performance in physical activity ranks us in the penultimate place in Europe. Something we shouldn't be too proud of. The multiple beneficial effects of sport for the individual and society are now proven. Health, wellness, participation, socialization, relationships. That is why the "exercise is medicine" movement has a worldwide impact in the scientific community and now exercise is prescribed. Because we discovered that every euro that goes to exercise and sports, returns many times over in avoiding costs for medical and hospital care, later."


In closing, Mr. Mavrotas referred to the big bet for our society, which is "to increase the sport we do in relation to the sport we consume and this is exactly what #BEACTIVE does. It tries to create a culture of exercise, from the age of six to 96. The actions of #BEACTIVE, every year become more and more, richer and richer, thanks to the cooperation we have with the State, the Local Government, the sports bodies. We are all teammates in activating society. Thanks to the wonderful team of #BEACTIVE, my partners and all of you who make great events happen. Many congratulations to today's awardees and I wish that 2024 will also be a rich BEACTIVE year."


In the context of the event, the #BEACTIVE National Coordinator and vice-president of the World Sports for All Organization TAFISA, Dionysis Karakasis presented detailed information with the actions implemented at national and international level, as well as the guidelines of the European Commission for the organization of actions for in 2024. According to them, it is proposed in the framework of the "European Week of Sports 2024", to provide a thematic category for highlighting the Olympic Values ​​and Green Sports since we are going through an Olympic year.


At the same time, the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Organizing Committee of #BeActiveHellas and the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, took place during the event, the Mayor and chairman of the #BeActiveHellas Coordinating Committee, Giorgos Mavrotas with the Mayor of Thessaloniki and President of the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki Stelios Angeloudis for the joint support and implementation of actions of the European Sports Week, to promote the message for an active and active lifestyle. The event started with the National Cheerleading Team presenting part of the program that will be seen at the World Championship they will be taking part in, eliciting the warm applause of the guests.


The members of the #BeActiveHellas Organizing Committee, Despina Fassianos and Dora Alexandropoulos, also presented the interactive map of the European Commission with the actions implemented throughout Europe in 2023 (https://sport.ec.europa.eu/european- week-of-sport/countries-and-regions) and the Beach Volley work academy that was created with the participation of 27 employees of the Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports with coach Olympian Vassiliki Karadassiou in the context of the activation of employees in the exercise, according to the what the #BEACTIVE program stands for.


The event started with the National Cheerleading Team presenting part of the program that will be seen at the World Championship they will be taking part in, eliciting the warm applause of the guests.


During the event, videos with characteristic snapshots of the actions of the past year were shown, while its own special video was presented by the Handball Federation, which is among the federations that has strongly supported the program since the first year of its implementation.



The event was also graced with the presence of the Deputy Regional Governor of Thessaloniki, Voula Patoulidou, the Deputy Regional Governor of Attica Sports, Vasiliki Millousi, the Director of the Office of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Dimitris Kontos, the president of the OAKA Georgia Phyrigou-Konsolo, the president of the EAK Heraklion of Crete Menandros Pantelidis, the mayor Dionysos Maichosoglou Aikaterini, the mayor of Aspropyrgos Ioannis Ilias and other representatives from the Local Government, the Region, Olympians, Paralympians, representatives of Federations, the ambassadors of #BeActiveHellas, a number of sports organizations, politicians and officials etc.
