Eleni Ilkou, Youth Worker

Eleni Ilkou was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece. She graduated high school with excellence, receiving a distinction prize from the State Scholarship Foundation of Greece (IKY) for entering the University of Ioannina Mathematics Department. During her Bachelor, she worked as a teaching assistant for an introductory course in programming. She gained teaching experience as a mathematics tutor in different curricula, such as the Greek, Swedish, International and European Baccalaureate. Through internships, she taught in private and craft schools and mentored in mathematical competitions. There, she discovered her passion for education. She was awarded an Erasmus scholarship and joined the Greek High School of Brussels, where she taught classes, prepared students successfully for mathematics competitions and participated in school programs and seminars as a co-leader. Having an interest in smart education led her to pursue the Master's in Applied Computer Science at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, with a specialization in smart cities. She fulfilled her thesis by working on a novel framework for educational material under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Beat Signer. Later, she worked in the AI Lab Brussels as a researcher in an applied research project, focusing on explainable AI and ontologies. She is a MSCA fellow in the L3S Research Center at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Nejdl. Eleni has led multiple international IT and research projects throughout her career. Eleni's goal is to contribute towards smart education. She believes education is a vehicle which can transform people's lives and assist individuals in achieving their goals and dreams. Her research focuses on the semantic web and computer science applications in education and personalized learning. Her long-term goal is to provide quality education to everyone with internet access. Her work is published in top-tier conferences in the semantic web domain.Orru Errika

Erika Orru, Youth Worker

I am Erika and I live and work in Sardinia, Italy. I applied to attend to the Joyful Leadership course and to the venue since I am really interested in this topic, as a coordinator of activities for the University of Cagliari. The occasion to both attend to a professional training course and to have it in an international environment has been perfect for me. Moreover, I am more than happy to be coordinated in this activity by EER and to have the opportunity to meet the Greek partners since I had a great experience in Athens as a intern within the framework of the Erasmus+ Placement program in the past. I am looking forward to this new experience!

Aims of the training course

  1. To increase the participants capacity and professional skills in the field of leadership so they can become better leaders in their organisations

  2. to promote the concept of Joyful Leadership, the training cycle (manual, online course, training course), and its benefits for youth workers

Moreover, our Youth Workers will have the chance to get to know the Joyful Leadership trainers in person, meet other motivated young leaders and exchange experiences with them, and participate in interactive, engaging and challenging activities.
